Crested Butte Nordic is a nonprofit organization that grooms 55 km of winter trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, rents ski and snowshoe equipment, delivers nordic ski programs for youth and adults, and hosts events, including The Alley Loop Nordic Marathon and the Grand Traverse Ski, Run, & Mountain Bike. We hire a diverse crew of year-round and seasonal with a focus on customer service, professionalism, and passion for the outdoors.

FUN’damentals (ages 5-7, U6/U8) is our new entry-level, learn-to-ski program focusing on beginner classic technique movement, agility, balance, coordination, and comfortability on skis. This group emphasizes growing individual and team-oriented confidence, while pursuing fun ski activities. A typical practice will include a mobility warm-up activity, an exploratory group ski, and ending with a game. Skiers have the options to participate in one or two practice days a week.
Responsibilities
Lead fun, energetic, and positive practices for your group of similarly skilled and aged skiers on a weekly basis.
Meet the FUN’damentals Learning Objectives, by following your group’s open-ended Practice Plan, specific to fun, basic classic technique, agility, and coordination activities.
Come prepared to practice by checking in on email communications and FUN’damentals’ Google Drive.
Responsible for your group’s equipment at the beginning and end of each practice. This includes distributing to your athletes and collecting/returning depending on a dedicated process.
Keep an open dialogue with the Junior Programs Coordinator regarding any progress, accomplishments, or issues.
Coaching Licensure and Certifications
Abide by all Crested Butte Nordic Team (CBNT), Crested Butte Nordic Council (CBNC), SafeSport, Procedures, and Code(s) of Conduct.
Completion of SafeSport Training provided upon hiring.
Hold a current CPR/First Aid certification or greater.
Report any violations of CBNC (including, but not limited to, SafeSport violations) in compliance with organizational procedures.
Basic Qualifications
Ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
Positive, outgoing, and fun personality.
Well-versed cross-country skier, technically sound in both classic and skate disciplines.
Previous experience working with athletes, ages 5-7.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience coaching junior cross-country ski programs.
Skilled at communicating activities in an age-appropriate manner.
Time Commitment
This position is approximately 2-4 hrs/week, depending on the coaching schedule. The season spans over the course of 9 weeks, starting Wednesday, January 7, 2026 and ending Friday, March 13, 2026. No practices will be held February 16 -20, 2026 for February Break. Practices run Wednesdays and Fridays; Wednesdays 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm and Fridays 4:00pm - 5:30pm. A FUN’damental Coach’s practice time commitment is 2 hours, with the expectation that they would arrive 30 mins prior to the start of practice.
Pay and Benefits
Starting at $55*/session, 2 hour time commitment, total of 18 sessions/season (9 weeks)

One of our newly offered programs, the Noncompetitive Middle School and High School Program (ages 11-18), are suited for those athletes who are interested in continuing developing as a skier in a low-stakes and low intensity setting. This program is suited for athletes who want to stay fit in the winter months but are not interested in racing. The Noncompetitive Middle School and High School Programs provides a supportive, team-oriented environment for skiers looking for choose-your-own-practices under CBNT coaching supervision.
Responsibilities
Lead fun, energetic, and positive practices for your group of similarly skilled and aged skiers on a weekly basis.
Work alongside Junior Programs Coordinator to engage with the Noncompetitive athletes to assess their goals for the season and make feasible plans for achievement.
Come prepared to practice by checking in on email communications and Noncompetitive's Google Drive.
Be accessible before and after practice to manage equipment and/or answer any skier’s questions.
Keep an open dialogue with the Junior Programs Coordinator regarding any progress, accomplishments, or issues.

The season spans over the course of 12 weeks, starting Tuesday, December 2, 2025 and ending Thursday, March 12, 2026. No practices will be held December 22, 2025 - January 2, 2026 for Winter Break, and February 16 -20, 2026 for February Break. Practices run Tuesdays and Thursdays; Tuesday/Thursday 4:00pm - 5:30pm. A Noncompetitive Coach’s practice time commitment is 2 hours, with the expectation that they would arrive 30 mins prior to the start of practice.

Nordic Center Staff

Our Service Technicians are a vital part of the Crested Butte Nordic team and nordic community in the Crested Butte Valley. The Service Technician will complete Nordic ski service efficiently and expertly to help maintain our guest, team, and rental equipment at the highest level. The ideal candidate will have ski service experience, but training is available for those who are technically apt and motivated to learn and receive feedback.. The schedule is flexible and will be coordinated via the Service Technician Supervisor on an as needed basis.
Salary: $21/hr, non-exempt
Hours of Work: November-April, part time, flexible schedule. 5-15 hours/week, depending on service requests.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Service Nordic skis, including waxing, scraping, and brushing skis, installing bindings, cutting poles, and maintaining pole grips and straps.
Repair Nordic rental skis and/or document damage for warranty claims
Communicate with customers and answer questions as needed when receiving skis or other gear for service
Follow procedures while creating and updating accurate, well-documented work orders throughout the service process
Monitor customer work orders to ensure timely completion
Initiate prompt and accurate communication with customers as needed
Collaborate with Nordic Center Manager, Supervisors and Associates to ensure a seamless intake and communication process for services items
Assist Nordic Center Associates, Instructors, Supervisors and Volunteers with technical questions from staff and guests
Timely and accurately track inventory of supplies taken from merchandise shelves
Support with Alley Loop wax orders and waxing in the day(s) leading up to the event
Make repairs to snowshoes and sharpen ice skates as needed
Support pre-season ski prep and end of season storage wax for rental fleet
Preferred Skills and Prerequisites:
Experience with ski service or other shop experience preferred
Understanding of different equipment types and compatibility
Knowledge of ski fitting and ski wax to make appropriate recommendations
Ability to navigate ladders, reaching overhead and ambulate in tight spaces
