Mission

Crested Butte Nordic fosters outdoor experiences and community well-being through high-quality programs, events, and winter trails.

Vision

Crested Butte Nordic sets the standard of excellence for outdoor winter recreation through accessible, inclusive, and fun nordic-focused programming for all ages and abilities. We host high-quality recreational events that offer unique community experiences.  Through strong local partnerships, Crested Butte Nordic maintains an extensive winter trail system that connects residents and visitors to our natural surroundings.

Who We Are

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1987 that maintains 55 kilometers of scenic cross-country ski and snowshoe trails in the Town of Crested Butte. We help the community and visitors get outside and enjoy all that winter has to offer. We have a small year-round staff of seven, a mighty season staff of upwards of 60, and a governing board of nine.

What We Do

We work in close partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Crested Butte Land Trust, the Towns of Crested Butte and Mount Crested Butte, and over forty private landowners to ensure winter access to 55 kilometers of groomed trails.

We provide community programming for all ages and abilities:

  • Adult Programming through the Masters Community

  • Youth Programming through the CB Nordic Team

  • Ski for Free Community Opportunities

  • Community Outreach Opportunities in partnership with local organizations and nonprofits such as Inmigrantes Unidos de Gunnison, The Gunnison Watershed School District, and CB State of Mind

  • Nordic Ski Lessons and Ski and Snowshoe Tours

We offer gourmet backcountry dining at the Magic Meadows Yurt.

We host unique events throughout the year:

  • Thanksgiving Camp

  • Pinnacle Orthopedics Community Race Series

  • The Alley Loop Nordic Marathon

  • The Gothic Mountain Tour

  • The Grand Traverse Race Series: Ski, Run, Bike

  • The Grin & Bear It Trail Run
