Crested Butte Nordic is a nonprofit organization that grooms 55 km of winter trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, rents ski and snowshoe equipment, delivers nordic ski programs for youth and adults, and hosts events, including The Alley Loop Nordic Marathon and the Grand Traverse Ski, Run, & Mountain Bike. We hire a diverse crew of year-round and seasonal with a focus on customer service, professionalism, and passion for the outdoors.

Current Openings

Administrative

  • The Development, Marketing & Communications Manager (DMC Manager) oversees all marketing and communication and supports the Executive Director in executing CB Nordic’s development plan goals. This position increases revenues through sales, events, sponsorships, and fundraising. The DMC Manager reports to the Executive Director (ED) and works alongside the Events Director and the Programs Manager to ensure that all events and programs are accurately marketed and reach full market potential. This position works with the Executive Director to establish and reach revenue targets, and to reach fundraising targets set by the board.

    Key Responsibilities

    Marketing, Communications, and PR (50%):

    • Creates and implements a comprehensive Marketing Plan for CB Nordic, designed to strategically increase revenue while enhancing client experience.

    • Works with Events Director to market and track event registration, website updates, participant outreach and communications, etc. Events Director currently takes the lead on all aspects of events, with DMC Manager providing support.

    • Supports Events Director with event sponsorship procurement by aiding in development of applicable marketing materials. 

    • Works with Programs Manager and Junior Program coaching staff on marketing and tracking all programs and Team events, website updates, program promotion, etc.

    • Oversees mass email communications and strategies for the entire organization, including regular emailers, newsletters, and updates from various programs.

    • Is responsible for overall brand strategy and PR, including but not limited to: website, social media, print media, local news, e-blasts, newsletters, direct mailings, and more.

    • Maintains and stewards organizational communication platforms, including: Facebook, Instagram, Google Surveys, and Adobe Suite.

    • Creates and implements a comprehensive Communications Plan for CB Nordic that plans for and tracks communications for all events, programs, development and other outreach.

    • Work with other departments to create communication strategies for all departments.

    • Works with contracted marketing support for coordination of Meta and Google advertisements and specific website development tasks.

    • Other Marketing and Communications tasks as necessary.

    Development (40%): 

    • Spearheads annual Business Sponsorships by stewarding relationships, developing Sponsorship Agreements, and overseeing Agreement fulfillment. 

    • Works with the ED to create and implement a comprehensive Development Plan for CB Nordic that connects current and prospective donors with meaningful projects that match their interests.

    • Works with the ED to create and implement systems to prospect and track potential and current donors and grant opportunities.

    • Responsible for establishing and implementing, or assigning, all donor communications and follow up, including thank you letters, IRS receipts, surveys and more.

    • Serves on the Development & Marketing Committee and other appropriate ad hoc committees of the Board of Directors.

    • Works with ED to incorporate fundraising strategies and support into Events (GT Sponsor Dinner, etc.) and create new events with fundraising focus, if necessary.

    • Works with the ED to create and plan events related to fundraising and donor appreciation, such as the K Club Party, monthly events with guest instructors, capital campaign cultivation and fundraising events, etc.

    • Together with ED and Finance Manager, helps maintain and steward the Salesforce database. 

    • Works with the ED and Finance Manager to plan for CB Nordic’s endowment. 

    Events and Miscellaneous (10%): 

    • All Admin staff should expect to contribute evening and weekend hours to CB Nordic events . Up to 2 major events/year may be requested “off”.

    • Perform duties related to organizational knowledge retention, such as documenting job processes within knowledge base (Guru).

    Desired Skills & Qualifications

    • Marketing & Communications Expertise: Proven experience developing and executing marketing and communications plans across multiple platforms (email, social media, print, web).

    • Development & Fundraising Knowledge: Experience with donor relations, sponsorship acquisition, and managing fundraising events and campaigns.

    • Project & Event Support: Ability to collaborate across departments to support events and programs with aligned marketing, outreach, and communications.

    • Strong Writing & Editing Skills: Skilled in crafting clear, compelling written content for newsletters, donor materials, and websites.

    • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with platforms such as Salesforce (or similar CRM), Google Surveys, Squarespace, and social media tools.

    Work Environment & Schedule: This is a full-time, year-round position averaging 40 hours per week. Due to the seasonal nature of our operations, flexibility is required, and the schedule may include extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays during peak periods. This position is responsible for managing their own schedule, including office hours, breaks, and regular days off, with the goal of maintaining an average of 40 hours per week over the course of the year. Work may be completed remotely or on-site, though some periods—particularly during the first three months of employment and during peak operational times—will require increased in-office presence to support onboarding and team collaboration.

    Compensation & Benefits: 

    • Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience, and paid bi-weekly. 

    • Bonus: A target annual bonus of 5% of base salary may be provided based on performance and year-end review. 

    • Retirement: A 3% employer match is available through a SIMPLE IRA plan after one year of employment. 

    • Health Benefits: Full-time, year-round employees receive a monthly health care stipend. 

    • Vacation: Up to 6 weeks of paid vacation may be taken between mid-April and mid-September, excluding major CB Nordic events. Time off during peak season (October - March) may be requested and approved in writing by the ED.

    • Holidays: Federal, state, and local holidays may be observed when they do not fall during CB Nordic events or peak season operations.

Nordic Center

  • Position: Nordic Center Supervisor
    Reports To: Nordic Center Manager
    Salary: $24/hour, non-exempt
    Hours of Work: Negotiable. 25-35 hours per week preferred, November 15-April 5, 2026

    Job Description: The Nordic Center Supervisor plays a key role in the day to day operations at the Crested Butte Nordic Center, which includes ski, snowshoe, and ice-skate rentals, merchandise sales, issuing season passes, selling day passes, booking lessons, and managing inventory. They will act as Manager-on-Duty (MOD) at times that the Nordic Center Manager is unable to be present. The primary responsibility of the Nordic Center Supervisors above all other tasks is to provide exemplary customer service to internal and external customers.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Greet guests as they arrive to the Nordic Center and provide a pathway to support 

    • Provide supervision and be a resource to associates as needed during shift

    • Ensure opening, closing, and daily duties are being completed, in collaboration with associates

    • Support staff training on CBN policies, procedures, roles, and responsibilities

    • Prepare, fulfill, and monitor rental reservations and outfit guests accordingly

    • Learn and utilize  software systems such as Salesforce, Square, Homebase, Google Drive, and Booqable

    • Update inventory on POS system as needed 

    • Communicate needs and share feedback with other team members in a timely and constructive manner

    • Sell and distribute season and day passes

    • Complete bookings of lessons and tours

    • Model and provide exemplary customer service in both retail and experience-driven sales

    • Communicate with the Nordic Center Manager about front desk needs, including but not limited to, office supplies, change,  food and beverages restock, and retail feedback

  • Position: Nordic Center Associate

    Job Description: Nordic Center Associates serve as daily representatives of the mission of Crested Butte Nordic and support guests throughout their experience with the Crested Butte Nordic Center. Associates will collaborate with instructors, service techs, volunteers, and managers to support the daily operations at CBN. Providing exemplary customer service to both internal and external customers is a top priority. 

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Greet guests as they arrive and provide guidance and support as needed

    • Distribute season passes

    • Fit and fulfill rental reservations

    • Sell day passes, lessons, tours and merchandise

    • Answer customer questions and provide information about CB Nordic’s offerings

    • Maintain access to the Nordic Center, to include, but not limited to, shoveling outside entryways and stairs in and out of the Nordic Center

  • Position: Nordic Center Night Shift Associate
    Reports To: Nordic Center Manager
    Salary: $20/hour, non-exempt
    Hours of Work: mid-December-March (shifts are dependent on Crested Butte Ice Arena’s opening & closing dates). 6-10PM shifts 

    Job Description: The Nordic Center Night Shift Associate works independently after the Nordic Center’s operations have closed for the day to support the Crested Butte Ice Arena’s operations, players and guests. The Night Shift Associate will also support the Nordic Center’s closing tasks as needed. 

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work independently and efficiently for evening shifts which primarily serves ice skaters, hockey teams, and rental returns

    • Facilitate ice skate rentals and ensure guests complete necessary paperwork

    • Complete retail sales as needed

    • Perform opening (for night shift) and closing duties, including but not limited to mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking 

    • Answer customer questions and provide information about CB Nordic’s programs, retail offerings, trail systems, and more

  • Position: Service Technician
    Reports To: Service Technician Supervisor
    Salary: $21/ hour, non-exempt
    Hours of Work: November-April, part time, flexible schedule. 5-15 hours/week, depending on service requests

    Job Description: Our Service Technicians are a vital part of the Crested Butte Nordic team and Nordic community in the Crested Butte Valley. The Service Technicians will complete Nordic ski service efficiently and expertly to help maintain our guest, team, and rental equipment at the highest level. The ideal candidate will have ski service experience, but training is available for those who are technically apt and motivated to learn and receive feedback.. The schedule is flexible and will be coordinated via the Service Technician Supervisor on an as needed basis.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Service Nordic skis, including waxing, scraping, and brushing skis, installing bindings, cutting poles, and maintaining pole grips and straps.

    • Repair Nordic rental skis and/or document damage for warranty claims

    • Communicate with customers and answer questions as needed when receiving skis or other gear for service

    • Follow procedures while creating and updating accurate, well-documented work orders throughout the service process

    • Monitor customer work orders to ensure timely completion

    • Initiate prompt and accurate communication with customers as needed

    • Collaborate with Nordic Center Manager, Supervisors and Associates to ensure a seamless intake and communication process for services items

    • Assist Nordic Center Associates, Instructors, Supervisors and Volunteers with technical questions from staff and guests

    • Timely and accurately track inventory of supplies taken from merchandise shelves

    • Support with Alley Loop wax orders and waxing in the day(s) leading up to the event

    • Make repairs to snowshoes and sharpen ice skates as needed

    • Support pre-season ski prep and end of season storage wax for rental fleet

    Preferred Skills/Prerequisites:

    • Experience with ski service or other shop experience preferred

    • Understanding of different equipment types and compatibility

    • Knowledge of ski fitting and ski wax to make appropriate recommendations

Magic Meadows Yurt

  • Position: Magic Meadows Yurt Guide & Server
    Reports To: Nordic Center Manager
    Base Salary: $28/hr, non-exempt
    Hours of Work: December- March, Part-time. Shifts are generally 4-10 PM, 1-3 shifts/week. Evening, and weekend work is required. More shifts are available during holidays. 

    Job Description: Magic Meadows Yurt Guide & Servers assist with all aspects of a guest’s Magic Meadows Yurt Dinner experience which includes outfitting, driving, guiding, and serving in a fine dining backcountry setting. Guide/Server is responsible for supporting guests to and from the Magic Meadows yurt on Nordic skis and/or snowshoes in variable winter conditions. Above all other roles, exemplary customer service and attention to safety is expected. 

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Prepare vehicle(s), personal gear, and packs prior to guests arriving

    • Meet yurt dinner guests for at the Nordic Center to assist them with rental equipment, waivers, and ensure everything is in order for their trip to and from the yurt

    • Ensure all waivers are signed and collected from guests prior to departure

    • Drive guests in a CBN vehicle to the trailhead

    • Support guests by assisting them with putting on skis or snowshoes, giving an overview of the trail, and a safety talk

    • Guide skiers and snowshoers out to the yurt for dinner, typically by headlamp 

    • At the yurt, transition into the role as a server, working with Yurt Host/ess, the chef, and Yurt Operations Supervisor to serve drinks and dinner courses throughout the evening

    • Assist with clearing plates and bussing tables until guests are ready to depart

    • Guide guests back from the yurt to the vehicles, ensuring all guests are accounted for, and drive them back to the Nordic Center

    • Put put away all rented equipment and marked as returned in rental software at the end of the evening at the Nordic Center

    Preferred Skills/Prerequisites:

    • Experience driving 15 passenger vans, preferably in varied winter conditions

    • Clean driving record

    • Current First Aid certification, or ability to obtain after hiring

    • Excellent communication skills

    • Minimum one year experience as a server in a fine dining setting, preferred

    • Experience guiding/instructing/or leading others in an outdoor setting preferred

    • Ability to Nordic ski and support others on varied trail conditions with variable light, including dark.

    Job Description: Magic Meadows Yurt Bistro Servers assist with all aspects of the guest’s Magic Meadows Yurt Bistro experience. The Server is responsible for providing exemplary customer service in a bistro-style backcountry setting. 

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist with bistro preparation at the yurt, cleaning and set up prior to guest arrival

    • Working with Bistro Host/ess and other team members to serve food and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests

    • Prep food and drinks in kitchen

    • Clean up front of house after closing

    • Clear and buss tables 

    • Support Yurt Bistro Host/ess and other team members to load the snowmobile at the end of the shift

Coaching

  • The Crested Butte Nordic Team is seeking an Assistant Coach for the new Race Prep Team. The Race Prep Team (Ages 11-15, U12/U14/U16) is the next step up for competitive-minded skiers from the Devo Team. This team-oriented program is designed to introduce skiers to performance specific skiing. Concentrations on advancing technique in both classic and skate disciplines, introducing interval training, exploring intensity levels, and race specific strategies.

    Responsibilities

    • Support Head Race Prep Coach with running day-to-day practices.

    • Provide quality coaching, guidance, and support for athletes during a regular practice week and during race weekends.

    • Help build a fun, energetic team camaraderie and safe environment.

    • Work alongside Head Race Prep Coach to engage with Race Prep athletes to assess their goals for the season and make feasible plans for achievement.

    • Accompany Head Race Prep Coach to five travel race weekends throughout the season. See the Time Commitment section for more information.

    • Assist with waxing parties, both leading up to race weekends with athletes, and prepping skis day of races. 

    Coaching Licensure and Certifications

    • Abide by all Crested Butte Nordic Team (CBNT), Crested Butte Nordic Council (CBNC), US Ski and Snowboard (USSS), and Rocky Mountain (RMN), SafeSport Policies, Procedures, and Code(s) of Conduct.

    • Attain a USSS Volunteer membership.

    • Hold a current CPR/First Aid certification or greater.

    • Report any violations of CBNC or USSS policies (including, but not limited to, SafeSport violations) in compliance with organizational procedures.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Ability to break-down and communicate technique effectively.

    • Confidence in waxing application and procedures.

    Time Commitment

    This position is approximately 6 hrs/week with a variable schedule for race weekends. The season spans over the course of 13 weeks, starting Tuesday, November 4, 2025 and ending Thursday, February 26, 2026. No practices will be held November 24 - 28, 2026 for Thanksgiving Break, December 22, 2025 - January 2, 2026 for Winter Break, and optional practices held February 16 -20, 2026. Practices run Tuesday - Thursday; Tuesday/Thursday 4:00pm - 5:30pm, and Wednesdays 2:30pm - 4:00pm. The Assistant Race Prep Team Coach’s practice time commitment is 2 hours, with the expectation that they would arrive 30 mins prior to the start of practice. Potential for optional weekend and school break practices throughout the season. Five total travel race weekends out of the season for RMN JNQ races and U14 Youth Festival:

    • December 19 - 21, 2025

    • January 22 - 25, 2026

  • The Development (Devo) Team (ages 8-11, U10/U12), supports skiers in exploring cross-country skiing in a way that matches their personal goals – whether they’re aiming to improve performance or simply enjoy more time on skis. Devo represents the next steps beyond FUN’damentals and is focused on developing athletes in the sport of cross-country skiing. 

    Responsibilities

    • Lead fun, energetic, and positive practices for your group of similarly skilled, aged, and goal-oriented skiers on a weekly basis.

    • Meet the Development Team Learning Objectives, by following your group’s open-ended Practice Plan, specific to fun, agility, technique, and fitness activities.

    • Come prepared to practice by checking in on email communications and Development Team’s Google Drive.

    • Work alongside Junior Programs Coordinator to engage with Development Team athletes to assess their goals for the season and make feasible plans for achievement.

    • Responsible for your group’s equipment at the beginning and end of each practice. This includes distributing to your athletes and collecting/returning depending on a dedicated process.

    • Assist with waxing parties, leading up to race weekends with athletes, depending on your athletes’ participation and own experience.

    • Keep an open dialogue with the Junior Programs Coordinator regarding any progress, accomplishments, or issues. 

    Coaching Licensure and Certifications

  • FUN’damentals (ages 5-7, U6/U8) is our new entry-level, learn-to-ski program focusing on beginner classic technique movement, agility, balance, coordination, and comfortability on skis. This group emphasizes growing individual and team-oriented confidence, while pursuing fun ski activities. A typical practice will include a mobility warm-up activity, an exploratory group ski, and ending with a game. Skiers have the options to participate in one or two practice days a week.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead fun, energetic, and positive practices for your group of similarly skilled and aged skiers on a weekly basis.

    • Meet the FUN’damentals Learning Objectives, by following your group’s open-ended Practice Plan, specific to fun, basic classic technique, agility, and coordination activities.

    • Come prepared to practice by checking in on email communications and FUN’damentals’ Google Drive.

    • Responsible for your group’s equipment at the beginning and end of each practice. This includes distributing to your athletes and collecting/returning depending on a dedicated process.

    • Keep an open dialogue with the Junior Programs Coordinator regarding any progress, accomplishments, or issues. 

    Coaching Licensure and Certifications

    • Abide by all Crested Butte Nordic Team (CBNT), Crested Butte Nordic Council (CBNC), SafeSport, Procedures, and Code(s) of Conduct.

    • Completion of SafeSport Training provided upon hiring.

    • Hold a current CPR/First Aid certification or greater.

    • Report any violations of CBNC (including, but not limited to, SafeSport violations) in compliance with organizational procedures.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.

    • Positive, outgoing, and fun personality.

    • Well-versed cross-country skier, technically sound in both classic and skate disciplines.

    • Previous experience working with athletes, ages 5-7.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous experience coaching junior cross-country ski programs.

    • Skilled at communicating activities in an age-appropriate manner.

    Time Commitment

    This position is approximately 2-4 hrs/week, depending on the coaching schedule. The season spans over the course of 9 weeks, starting Wednesday, January 7, 2026 and ending Friday, March 13, 2026. No practices will be held February 16 -20, 2026 for February Break. Practices run Wednesdays and Fridays; Wednesdays 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm and Fridays 4:00pm - 5:30pm. A FUN’damental Coach’s practice time commitment is 2 hours, with the expectation that they would arrive 30 mins prior to the start of practice.

  • One of our newly offered programs, the Noncompetitive Middle School and High School Program (ages 11-18), are suited for those athletes who are interested in continuing developing as a skier in a low-stakes and low intensity setting. This program is suited for athletes who want to stay fit in the winter months but are not interested in racing. The Noncompetitive Middle School and High School Programs provides a supportive, team-oriented environment for skiers looking for choose-your-own-practices under CBNT coaching supervision.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead fun, energetic, and positive practices for your group of similarly skilled and aged skiers on a weekly basis.

    • Work alongside Junior Programs Coordinator to engage with the Noncompetitive athletes to assess their goals for the season and make feasible plans for achievement.

  • The Crested Butte Nordic Team (CBNT) is seeking an assistant coach for the Competitive (Comp) Team. The Comp Team (Ages 14-18, U16/U18/U20) provides year-round training for dedicated high school-aged athletes in the Gunnison Valley. The program is focused on creating a fun, supportive environment to support CBNT athletes in reaching their competitive nordic skiing goals. The Comp Team Assistant Coach helps run practices and coach during race weekends during the competitive season (November to March), with the option to coach year-round as interested. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Support Comp Team Head Coach with running day-to-day practice sessions (Tuesday-Saturday, November-March)

    • Provide quality coaching on technique, mindset, and other aspects of cross country skiing performance during practices

    • Help foster a fun, supportive, and safe team environment

    • Travel to a minimum of four race weekends along with the Comp Team Head Coach during the season (see the Time Commitment section for more information)

    • Assist with race waxing before and during race weekends

    Coaching License, Certifications, and Requirements:

    • Attain at least a US Ski & Snowboard (USSS) Club Volunteer-level membership

    • Hold a current CPR/First Aid certification or greater

    • Complete background check and SafeSport Training as required by the USSS

    • Abide by all Crested Butte Nordic Team (CBNT), Crested Butte Nordic Council (CBNC), USSS, Rocky Mountain Nordic (RMN), and SafeSport policies, procedures and codes of conduct

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment

    • Well-versed cross-country skier, technically proficient in both classic and skate techniques

    • Ability to attend morning, afternoon/evening, and weekend practices, along with weekend travel around Colorado and the Mountain West for race weekends

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous experience working with athletes ages 14-19

    • Experience competing in cross-country skiing races at the high school, collegiate, or post-collegiate level

    • Previous experience coaching junior cross-country ski programs

    • Experience with cross country ski wax selection and application (both kick and glide)

    Time Commitment:

    This position is approximately 10-12 hours per week during normal practice weeks, with additional variable hours required for race weekends. Practices start in early November and run through mid-March. The Comp Team Assistant Coach’s practice time commitment is 2 hours, with the expectation that they arrive 15-20min before practice starts and are available to help with cleanup for 15-20min after practice ends. Our general practice schedule is as follows: 

    • Tuesday - 6:30-8:00 AM and 4:00-5:30 PM

    • Wednesday - 2:30-4:00 PM

    • Thursday - 6:30-8:00 AM and 4:00-5:30 PM

    • Friday - 4:00-5:30 PM

    • Saturday - 9:30 AM - 12:00PM

    In addition to attending practices, the Comp Team Assistant Coach is expected to travel to all four Junior National Qualifier (JNQ) race weekends. For the 2025/26 season, these travel dates are: 

    • JNQ #1 - Winter Park: December 19-21, 2025

    • JNQ #2 - Soldier Hollow: January 22-25, 2026

    • JNQ #3 - Vail: February 6-8, 2026

    • JNQ #4 - Aspen: February 20-22, 2026

    Pay and Benefits

    • Seasonal part-time salary of $8,000 for work from November 1st 2025 - March 30th 2026
