Crested Butte Nordic is a nonprofit organization that grooms 55 km of winter trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, rents ski and snowshoe equipment, delivers nordic ski programs for youth and adults, and hosts events, including The Alley Loop Nordic Marathon and the Grand Traverse Ski, Run, & Mountain Bike. We hire a diverse crew of year-round and seasonal employees with a focus on customer service, professionalism, and passion for the outdoors.

The Junior Programs Coordinator is a seasonal, part-time (¾ time) position. It involves overseeing the U14 Junior Programs and non-competitive U16/U18 Programs, managing staff, scheduling, handling equipment, and ensuring SafeSport compliance.
Responsibilities
Program Oversight: Directing U14 programs (including Fun’damentals, Development Team, Team Glide, Biathlon, Pre-K and Ski for PE).
Staff Management: Hiring, scheduling, and training junior coaches.
Equipment: Managing the gear inventory for junior programs.
Participant Safety: Ensuring all programs meet SafeSport guidelines.
Parent Relations: Maintaining clear communication with families.
Collaboration: Working under the Programs Manager with the Comp Team Head.
Schedule
Season: September through mid-March.
Time Commitment: ¾ time availability (Monday-Friday).
Hours: Some mornings, with an emphasis on afternoon into early evening sessions (Must be available for 3:30-6pm practices Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri; 1:30-4pm on Wednesday). Junior Programs Coordinator will schedule themselves for 2 sessions a week coaching various programs.
Breaks: Includes 3-weeks off during school breaks.
Off-Season: Two meetings in August.
Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience working with children is preferred, as is a background in Nordic Skiing.
Skills: Strong communication skills and a desire to bring creative coaching tools to the staff.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience. Range $20,000-$23,000 (Approximate hours - September: 10 hr weeks, October: 15 hr weeks, November: 20 hr weeks, Dec/Jan/Feb/March: 30 hr weeks)

The Race Prep Head Coach is a seasonal, part-time position that oversees CB Nordic’s competitive race team for Middle School-aged (U12/U14) skiers. The Race Prep Head Coach develops and implements daily practices, communicates with families, supports athletes at Junior National Qualifier Race Weekends, and ensures SafeSport compliance within the Race Prep Team.
Responsibilities:
Coaching Responsibilities: Develop progressive practice plans and provide on-snow coaching 3-4 days per week for the Race Prep Team from November - March.
Staff Management: Train and supervise the Race Prep Assistant Coach.
Equipment: Manage gear inventory and rentals for the Race Prep Team.
Participant Safety: Ensure that all programming meets SafeSport guidelines.
Parent Relations & Communication: Establish working relationships with Race Prep families; provide clear and consistent communication about the program.
Schedule:
Season: October 15th 2026 - March 15th 2027
Time Commitment: Approximately 15 hours/week
Hours: Afternoon practices Tuesday-Friday (~3:00-6:00pm); variable hours outside of practice times for program administration, etc.
Travel: Occasional weekend travel is required for race weekends (up to 5 weekends per season)
Time Off: Up to 3 weeks paid during school breaks.
Qualifications:
Background with competitive Nordic Skiing and competency with both skate and classic skiing technique required
Previous coaching experience (or other experience working with children) preferred
Strong communication and organizational skills
Working knowledge of Nordic Skiing equipment and waxing strongly preferred
Compensation & Benefits:
$4,500-$5,000 salary for the season, commensurate with experience. Paid bi-weekly.
Target bonus of 5% ($200-$250) to be paid upon successful completion of the season.
