How to shop the Snow Sports Swap

How to Shop the 2017 Snow Sports Swap

1. If you don’t need it, sell it

Sign up to sell gear at cbsnowsports.org. Then, come to one of our drop-off days in Crested Butte or Gunnison this Thursday before the Swap.

2. Do your homework

Whether you are shopping nordic or skimo, make sure you know what size gear you need before coming in. You can do this online by looking up size charts and using them to convert your shoe size to European and Mondopoint sizes. Nordic boots use European sizing while Skimo and Backcountry boots often use Mondo sizing. Your weight is the most important factor when figuring out your ski size. Boulder Nordic sport has some great sizing information on Fisher skis (which would work for other nordic skis as well). Your classic pole height can range from your armpit to the top of your shoulder, while your skate poles should hit somewhere between your chin and your nose. The less experienced you are, the shorter your poles can be.

3. Be compatible

There ares still two binding systems haunting the nordic world. If you are looking for nordic gear, you need to know which boots or bindings you have: NNN or SNS. Backcountry nordic bindings are a whole other story. They are bigger than normal nordic bindings and only work with BC boots. If you’re not sure what you have, just bring your skis or boots in to be sure that your new gear will be compatible.

4. Become a Member

People with a $35 Snowsports Foundation membership are welcomed into the Swap on Friday night a half hour before everybody else (at 5:30 p.m.). You can support a good cause and beat the crowds at the same time by getting a membership. If you don’t have a membership, you can chose to pay $10 for early bird shopping at 6 p.m. on Friday night.

5. Get help

The Nordic Center has staff on hand at the swap to help people find gear that will work for them.

6. Come hungry

As usual, there will be pizza available for purchase.

7. Don’t forget your wallet

There will be all kinds of sales going on: CBMR season passes, CB Nordic Season Passes, Alley Loop registration, and more. It’s all going to be discounted too!
