How to get ready for the upcoming season
Meet the Nordic Community and get a good meal
Our Annual Meeting and Potluck Dinner will be held this Thursday, November 9th at 6 p.m. at the Crested Butte Nordic Center. This is an informal “meeting” that gives us a chance to confirm the new board positions for a three year term. We’ll also enjoy one of the best potlucks in town! If you have any interest in what is going on at CB Nordic this winter and want to enjoy a good meal with good people, bring a dish and come on over. All are welcome!
Pick up your pass
The Nordic Center Opens on Saturday, November 11th at 9 a.m. We will be open every day from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Once we have groomed trails in Town (snow-dependent), we will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Once the Center opens this Saturday, you can come pick up your season pass, and you should sooner than later. If you wait until we are grooming in Town or until the holidays, you might have to wait in line.
Make sure your skis are ready to go
You can get away with having slow skis on the mountain because you have gravity on your side. When it comes to nordic skiing though, you need every advantage you can get. Having skis that are waxed and well maintained will make all the difference for you, especially if you are skate skiing. Ideally, you should be waxing your skis every couple of times that you ski on them. One way to get around this is to take advantage of our Hot Box Special.
A Hot Box is a fancy insulated bag that heats up and bakes wax into ski bases. It’s a tried and true technique that’s safe for your skis and makes your wax last a lot longer. First, we hot scrape the skis with warm wax to remove dirt from the bases. Then, we then apply another coat of warm wax and put the skis in the Hot Box for 8 hours to impregnate the ski base with wax. Finally, we apply a colder wax and hot box the skis again to ready them for our colder Crested Butte conditions.
This year we’re dropping the Hot Box price from $50 to $40. For a limited time, we’re having our Hot Box Special and only charging $30.
Start the season on the right foot
For our Thanksgiving Camp, we’re bringing in select instructors from around the state who, along with CB Nordic instructors, will offer on-snow clinics. This is hands down the best way to become a better skier this year, whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned veteran. We are really spoiled to have such great instructors and, typically, early season snow.

Get some free help
This year, we are offering free skate clinics at noon every Wednesday in December and January (except for around the holidays). These clinics are for beginner skate skiers that need some pointers. We’ll be sending out an email to our pass-holders in the next couple of weeks giving them the first chance to sign up before these free clinics fill up. If you are looking for more in depth or higher level instruction, you should consider signing up for our Thanksgiving Clinics.
