Trail Report

March 26, 2022

It may seem strange to have Mike’s Mile closed without any new snow but if you read the avalanche report dangerous wet slides will happen today.  Mike’s Mile sits under the Climax Chutes which have been known to run all the way to our bridges and trail in the Spring.   The Climax Chutes did not run in the last storm cycles or after much of the wind transport happened last week so there are multiple layers that could release in the warming temperatures at any point today.  Whenever I have a smidgen of doubt I opt for the safest option for you.

Meanwhile we got the West side groomed out last night and will have a cat on the East Side as the sun hits the snow this morning.

Please go to the Crested Butte Nordic Center website to read the comment on crust skiing in our Valley.  Just like skiing Red Lady Glades or Red Lady Bowl, much of our of our terrain is on private property and if you leave our trail system you are trespassing.  Please do not jeopardize our easements by skiing in someone’s backyard.
