CB Nordic COVID-19 Protocols

This page will be updated regularly with any changes to our programs and operations.

Please follow the Gunnison County Department of Health & Human Services for the current status of COVID-19 in Gunnison County.

November 11, 2020

CB Nordic has been working for the last 6 months to adapt our procedures to uphold high standards of health and safety for our customers and staff. We have adopted many new protocols. Please read on for updates by department.

Available Activities

Temporarily Closed

General Protocols

What we ask of you:

  • Keep at least 6 feet of space from others at all times.
  • Wear a mask when at the Nordic Center.
  • Wash hands frequently.
  • If you are feeling any signs of illness, please stay home.
  • Follow your local county’s guidelines and Gunnison County’s guidelines for travel.
  • When in Gunnison County, abide by Gunnison County gathering rules.

What we’re doing:

  • All staff are screened for fever before each shift and will wear appropriate protective gear including masks and gloves and practice appropriate social distancing, hand washing, and sanitizing
  • Enhanced sanitization protocols are in place for all facilities and equipment.
  • Any staff member who has had cold or flu-like symptoms in the past two weeks and/or has been around others who have been sick will stay home until symptom-free for at least 72 hours.

Nordic Center

The Nordic Center is not opening its doors to the public. All purchases must be made online, including day passes, rentals, lessons, and retail; pick up will be curbside at the Nordic Center with outside pick-up windows. We will allow walk-up sales, but these will be conducted outside and will still be run through the website reservation systems. We strongly recommend you purchase all rental gear and day passes in advance. We cannot guarantee there will be rental equipment available for walk-up sales.

Trails

Trails will be open, snow conditions permitting. Please display your trail pass visibly on the outside of your clothing so that Trail Hosts can see them easily as you ski by.

Events

We are currently submitting event risk mitigation plans to Gunnison County for each event on our 2020-21 Calendar of Events. Thankfully, all our winter events lend themselves to social distancing in the great outdoors!

Event modifications include but are not limited to:  virtual pre-race briefings, “drive through” packet pick-up,  segmented wave starts, touchless aid stations, elimination of finish line congregations / awards ceremonies, and mandatory mask wearing where social distancing is not feasible.

We piloted this model successfully this Summer with the Grand Traverse Mountain Run & Bike, and are hopeful we’ll be able to adapt to winter races to gain public health approval.

Currently, 2020 Thanksgiving Ski Camp is approved. Modifications include smaller groups, strictly outdoor ski clinic instruction, elimination of ancillary social gatherings. We must comply with dynamically changing County guidelines and will keep registered participants apprised of specific alterations to the camp as they arise.

2021 Alley Loop – a segmented two-day event format is under review with permit authorities.  Updates will be posted HERE.

Junior Team Programs

Junior Team Programs are quite similar to how they’ve run in the past. The biggest change is that no one will be allowed inside the building, including kids and parents. All changing clothes must happen outside, at school, or in cars. We will have portapotties outside for bathrooms. Additionally, group sizes are smaller and groups are fixed: kids and instructors will not be switching from group to group. 6+ feet of distance must be maintained, and if it cannot be maintained, masks must be worn. As long as we’re in Blue & Yellow we can run our modified programs; in Orange & Red programs will be shut down. The CBNT Program Handbook outlines all Team COVID Protocols in more detail.

Masters Community, Lessons, & Tours

Masters Community programs will look much the same. The biggest change is that no one will be allowed inside the building. If you need rental skis, you must reserve them online in advance. We will have portapotties outside. Group sizes are smaller and groups are fixed: participants and instructors will not be allowed to switch groups  or days. 10 feet of distance must be maintained, and if it cannot be maintained, masks must be worn. As long as we’re in Blue & Yellow we can run our modified programs; in Orange & Red programs will be shut down. Pay attention to the Masters Email Updates so you know where your group is meeting; groups will be spread out on all parts of our trail system.
