Where We've Been, Where We're Going
Planning in the Time of Pandemic
We hope this finds you healthy, happy, and getting out to enjoy the fresh air, awesome trails, and abundant wildflowers around CB! Here at CB Nordic our administrative staff is working away to create winter offerings under the cloud of COVID. As we’ve been preparing for next year, we’ve been looking hard at who we are, what we do, and where we stand financially. We are a healthy organization committed to providing trails and rentals for next year, but COVID is certainly presenting some new and interesting challenges for us to overcome.
We’ve pulled together our very first Annual Report for 2019-2020 so that you can see where we’re at on many levels.
The Annual Report Contains:
- Metrics showing our 2019-2020 Impact
- Insight into our 2019-2020 Financials
- Project Updates
- Goals & Forecast for next season
- Profiles of some amazing folks in our CB Nordic Community
- And more of Xavier Fane’s gorgeous photos!
Please take a look, and if you have questions, reach out. We’d be happy to discuss anything in more depth with you.
Grin & Bear It Trail Challenge
One Week Left
You’ve got one week left to test your mettle in The Grin & Bear It Trail Challenge. You can do the classic out-and-back course to Green Lake (15K) or the new loop course, utilizing Baxter Gulch Trail (25K). You go on your own time, track your run, and then upload it to TerraQuest to see how you stack up against the competition.
We’ve had just about 30 participants put down times so far, including legend Timmy Parr, who holds the course record on the 15K and appears to have set the course record for the 25K. Think you can beat him? Get it done in the next week!
A registration fee is not required, but a donation is required to be entered to win the raffle prizes (and to get one of the sweet headbands pictured below)! Every dollar goes to helping more kids get outside. Event income is critical to helping keep our program costs down.
Thank you for supporting the CB Nordic Junior Team!

Junior Team Update
The Junior Team has been training hard this summer to race fast this upcoming winter. Crested Butte Nordic Team head coach Molly Susla has been leading a group of committed racers through rollerski practices, strength-building sessions, and even a testing week to give the athletes a baseline for their efforts this summer. The testing week consisted of the Canadian Strength Test, a 3000 meter run, and a 1 mile uphill double-pole rollerski time trial. We saw some impressive results out of these local teens. Last week, the team headed up to Green Lake as part of the Grin and Bear It Trail Challenge for a great day of running, swimming, and camaraderie.
This year’s competition team is looking strong both physically and in fellowship. We’ve seen an encouraging growth in this program over the past few years under Molly’s leadership. This season, we expect to have 12 or more athletes on the competition team training seriously year-round. Although we don’t know what this winter will look like, these athletes are hopeful to be able to race regionally. We’re excited about being able to safely offer this outlet to the valley’s junior skiers.
If you have a child 10 or older that’s interested in joining this fun, committed group of athletes, please email Molly at [email protected].
