The Calm Before the Storm

Winter is Revving into Action

Our first-ever Colorado Gives Day was a resounding success! You all helped us kick off the season of giving with such generosity. Together, you raised over $4,600 to support our trails and outreach programs so that nordic skiing and snowshoeing can be accessible to more people. As a community nordic center, we rely on you, our community, for everything we do. And you continue to step up to the plate in such amazing ways. We couldn’t be here without you. Thank you!

Trails

Please start doing your snow dances! Ruthie’s Run up on the Bench continues to ski exceptionally well, but we’re all getting antsy for more snow so the rest of our trails can open. If it starts snowing, the Trail Report will be your source for any/all trail openings!

Reservations

We continue to dial in our new systems before the holiday onslaught. One tip for success: please make all reservations at least 24 hours in advance (rentals, lessons, and tours). This gives our staff time to pull everything and have it set aside for you. You can reserve rentals day-of if need be, but the more notice you can give us the faster your pick-up will be.

For Junior Programs, you do NOT have to reserve equipment for your child’s practices. The coaches will pull it each week so they’re ready to go.

For Masters, you DO need to reserve your equipment for your Masters sessions. We suggest you reserve the whole season ASAP so you don’t miss out on sizes.

Season Passes

Given how close the holidays are, please pick up your Season Pass by December 18 to avoid the crowds. Right now, there is little to no line at the pick-up window, but come the holidays we are expecting quite long lines.

Gray Hares Begins

First Outing Dec. 16

Gray Hares are a group of skiers over the age of 50 who like to gather for a loose group ski with like minded people. It is a very social group who like to ski the trails, ski a little light backcountry touring, and enjoy an occasional potluck.  They meet on Wednesdays at 9:30 until about 11:30 a.m.  Most of us classic ski, but skating technique is always welcomed, as well. The first outing will be Wednesday, December 16 at 9:30 a.m. to ski the Magic Meadows. If that’s not open yet, they’ll meet at the Nordic Center.  Masks or doubled buffs are required, along with distancing of 6 feet. Please pick up your ski pass prior to December 16.   If you would like to join the Gray Hares, please forward your email address to the leader Jane Banks, [email protected].

Learn to Ski for Free Begins

Skate Clinic on December 17

Learn to Ski for Free this winter! Join us Thursdays throughout the season for a free 1-hour beginner clinic. Clinics are from 12 to 1. Some weeks it’s a classic (traditional cross-country) clinic, and other weeks it’s skate skiing. These clinics are for folks who have a hard time skate or classic skiing or who have never tried nordic skiing before. Participants must sign up at least 24 hours in advance. Each lesson has a maximum of 8 participants and is open to skiers ages 18 and over. Registration for all the Ski for Free clinics is now open.
