A Season of Transitions

Celebrations and Farewells

A note from the Director

Dear CB Nordic Community,

As many of you know, I’ve been on maternity leave since late August of 2021. I’ve been phasing back in since November, but as things ramp up for me I’ve also made the decision that this will be my last season as Executive Director (ED) of CB Nordic. I’m only leaving to focus more time on family, and will be doing everything I can to make this transition as smooth as possible for the organization.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been on this CB Nordic journey together for five years now, seeing the organization through a time of intense challenges and growth. I will continue to work with the organization through the hiring of a new ED and as part of The Outpost project team to see it to completion, per the Board’s request. I continue to be excited for CB Nordic’s future and the new ways our beloved organization can serve the community. Everything we’ve built together–all the amazing programs, services, and events–will continue. But it’s time for a new chapter in CB Nordic’s leadership.

It has been my great honor to lead CB Nordic the last five years, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in this way.

Christie Hicks

CB Nordic wishes Christie all the best in her next chapter! But never fear, you’ll still be seeing her around the Nordic Center for the coming months, and around the Trails for years to come. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, spring is getting into full gear.

Read on for the fun events we have to celebrate this sunny time of year and to wrap-up some of our favorite programs!

Last Community Races!

Skiathlon & Obstacle Course

Pinnacle Orthopedics Community Races #9 and #10 are coming up fast. Race #9, on March 5, will be a skiathlon on the Town Ranch Trails; racers will start on classic skis for the first half, then swap skis and poles to skate for the second half of the race. Race #10 will be held on March 9 up on Ruthie’s Run as a freestyle obstacle course. Racers can ski up to three timed laps during the three-hour time the course is open with the fastest single lap time determining the places.

Beerski World Championships

And Community Celebration

Crested Butte Nordic and Eddyline Brewery are proud to announce the first-ever Beer Ski World Championships! On Saturday, March 26th at the Magic Meadows yurt, individuals and relay teams will chug beers then ski a 1/2 mile loop for this inaugural historic event.

There will be two race options the Tallboy Team Relay and the Drunken Master Challenge. Kids will have an opportunity to race a donut relay and a shorter distance. And if you’re not into racing, just come celebrate an amazing season with us at the Yurt!

Montanya Rum

Montanya loves rum and great rum cocktails, but they care about the planet and our communities even more. That’s why they’re proud to meet the world’s highest social and environmental standards as a certified B Corp to prove that business can be a force for good. They also support community organizations like CB Nordic, so we can do more to serve you. If you’ve been to the yurt for dinner, you’ve likely tasted the delicious rum cocktails they donate! We’re grateful to Montanya for their steadfast support.

Gothic Mountain Tour Success

Thank you to the CBAC & volunteers for your help!

We want to give a big thank you to all who helped with this year’s Gothic Mountain Tour. This past weekend CB Nordic hosted the 16th Annual Gothic Mountain Tour in partnership with the Crested Butte Avalanche Center. This rugged event saw the biggest field yet, with 193 folks strapping on skis and skins to make the big trek around Gothic Mountain at a -13 degree start! Brr! Thank you to Crested Butte Mountain Rescue, the CBAC, and all of our volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without you!
