Last Week of Junior Programs

It’s been amazing to watch the kids in our Junior Programs ski, play games, zoom downhills, laugh, fall, get up, explore, and grow all season. This year we had over 150 kids in our after-school programs! That is by far the biggest yet, with triple the participants we had just five years ago. It is thanks to the huge efforts of head coach Molly Susla and her amazing team of coaches that we’ve been able to get so many more kids on skis. We had over twenty coaches this year, so we can’t list them all here, but we are so grateful to every one of them for sharing their time, energy, and love of skiing with our Valley’s kids. We do want to specially thank Murray Banks, our Pied Piper of Nordic, for the immeasurable ways he’s improved our programs. We’re so grateful to him for sharing his passion and expertise with us. Finally, thanks to all the families that shared your children with us this year. You are a critical part of our community, and working with your kids is a cornerstone of our mission. Thank you all for a great season!

Yurt Events Wrapping Up

Our last Backcountry Bistro and yurt dinners are this week. The yurt dinners are sold out, but we are adding people to the wait list if you’d like to join that. Then, look out for when we announce winter 2020-2021 yurt dates in August. The Bistro, however, has no limit. Join us this Sunday, March 15 or next Sunday, March 22 for an added bonus Bistro. March 22 will even feature local bluegrass group, the Slate River String Dawgs. The Bistro is open from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and features a la carte brunch items and beverages for purchase.

Experience the Grand Traverse without the Struggle

The North Face Grand Traverse is a super unique event: midnight start, 40 miles of backcountry skiing, and two iconic mountain towns, Crested Butte and Aspen, on either side. But it’s also a Type 2 Sufferfest for most folks. You can be part of the action without all beard-sicles by volunteering! We need help on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 in Crested Butte before the race takes off at midnight on Sunday, March 29 (yep, that’s a SUNDAY start). We also have some Aspen-side volunteer slots available. Join us in a number of roles, from setting up to cleaning up, checking-in racers to course marshaling. To get involved, email [email protected].

The Nordic Center is located at 2nd & Whiterock in downtown Crested Butte. Stop by in person or learn more at cbnordic.org.
