Summer at CB Nordic

Planning, Planning, & More Planning

Summer is off and running over at Crested Butte Nordic! We’re hard at work crafting new plans and procedures to get you outside and keep you safe. Read below about the Grin & Bear It Trail Challenge, the current status of the summer Grand Traverse, an update on the Junior Nordic Team, and a bid opportunity for the Hockey Changing Rooms Project at the Big Mine Ice Arena.

Thank you to everyone who took our survey. Your feedback is being carefully considered as we plan for next year. Congrats to Rich Evans for being the big gift certificate winner!

If you have a minute, check out our Sponsor Spotlight posts on our social media or on our (new!) CB Nordic Blog. Our Business & Lodging Partners are critical to CB Nordic’s ability to fulfill our mission. They’ve supported us, now we encourage you to return the favor and support them!

Grin & Bear It Trail Challenge

July 1 - July 31, 2020

This July we’re presenting the 37th Annual running of the Grin & Bear It as a summer fundraiser for the CB Nordic Team. This summer’s race will not be held as a single day mass event, but rather as an individual Trail Challenge. You choose your course (15K or 25K), you choose your day (July 1-July 31), and then post your track online to TerraQuest to see where you stand on the Leaderboard. Also new in 2020, we’re introducing a 25K loop option. Top finisher prize packages will be up for grabs, as will bountiful raffle awards spread across both race fields. Support the Junior Nordic Team and you’ll receive one of these sweet athletic headbands (pictured below).

Summer GT Updates

Run is Full; Bike is Filling up Quickly!

We are cautiously optimistic we’ll be able to host The North Face Grand Traverse Mountain Run & Bike this coming Labor Day weekend. We are planning on some modifications to the race procedures, including things like a virtual racer briefing and mandatory face coverings at the start line. We have submitted an event plan to County Public Health officials and are working with them to come up with a safe, feasible plan. The Run is full, but you can still get on the wait-list. The Bike is filling up quickly! Stay tuned for more information when we have it.

Summer Junior Team Training

Head Coach Molly Susla and her team are literally jumping for joy that they get to be back together again. Summer training looks a little different this year, with rigorous social distancing and hygiene protocols in place, but the kids are still excited to be back in action. They’ve already been roller skiing, strength training, and team building. It’s fun to have them out in the Teaching Area again!

Hockey Changing Rooms

Bid Opportunity

Builders! Contractors! The Town of Crested Butte is now accepting bids for the Hockey Changing Rooms Project. Anyone who’s been in the Center during the Nordic Team and Hockey Team practices after school knows that it’s a mad-house in here! Especially during the era of COVID-19, this important project will help Big Mine Park and our facilities move forward into the future safely. If you know someone who might be interested in this building project please share this info with them.
